Fit for the winter

How winter tires brave the weather

Bearing down on a pair of orange traffic cones with the pedal to the metal and then slamming on the brakes – that is something drivers may never experience in ordinary road traffic, and if so then only in hazardous situations nobody wants to be in. But in order to prepare for just such situations, automobile clubs regularly offer driver safety training on their proving grounds. Among other things, drivers can experience first hand how helpless and at the mercy of their vehicle they are during full braking on slippery, snow-covered pavement. Nerve-wracking seconds pass before the braking effect is felt and the car comes to a halt. How long the braking distance ultimately is also depends on the tires. In order to demonstrate how LANXESS, with its high-performance rubber products, helps produce tires that protect the environment while simultaneously enhancing safety, the group extended invitations for a braking test at the facilities of the Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club (ADAC) in Grevenbroich, Germany during October 2009.
