A long way to go

India’s problems won’t be solved overnight

As India’s economy becomes stronger, so does its political influence. A succession of diplomatic breakthroughs, including indirect recognition of its atomic capability demonstrate India’s growing confidence on the international stage. Increasingly, the country is taking on more responsibility in international trouble spots, reinforcing its status as a global player. Afghanistan’s new parliament building, for example, is being financed by India.

And there is also still lots to be done back home. Despite the successes on the global market and the promising forecasts of further growth, it must be remembered that Indian society is still for the most part at the level of a developing country.
