From specialty chemicals that nip fires in the bud and keep machines running to those that give colors their brightness, in his new role as global head of the LANXESS Additives business unit, Dr. Anno Borkowsky not only holds the reins; he also helps keep the world from falling apart. Products from the business unit – flame retardants, lubricants, rubber and color additives – are used in many everyday objects such as airplanes or production machines, to name two prominent examples.

36 years ago Borkowsky chose the chemical industry as his destination. In 1981, after his apprenticeship as a technical assistant in biology, he elected to study chemistry at the University of Cologne. Thereafter, he started at Bayer AG in Leverkusen as Unit Manager. He remained there until September 1995 when he transferred to Bayer Corp. in Orange, Texas in the USA as Operations Manager

Four years later he returned to Germany. In 1999, the father of three children started his career as Executive Vice President at Rhein Chemie Rheinau GmbH in Mannheim. Two years later, he was named Regional Manager Europe and Chief Technology Officer. He was promoted to company CEO in 2002. As company head, he also took responsibility for the Rhein Chemie Group. He assumed global responsibility for the LANXESS Rhein Chemie Additives business unit in January 2015.

In his new position as global head of the Additives business unit, Borkowsky has led since April the worldwide additives business at LANXESS.
