From the Moskva to the Rhine

Philipp H. Junge took the helm of the Rhein Chemie Business Unit in April 2017.

Ask Philipp H. Junge about his current job profile and it will take him a few minutes to explain. After all, the daily grind of the 41 year old, originally from Lübeck, is quite versatile. Around four months ago he took the helm of the Rhein Chemie (RCH) business unit at LANXESS. In this role, he is tasked with overseeing a business unit that provides specialty chemicals to numerous sectors, a spectrum of industries ranging from rubber and plastics to colorants. The product portfolio includes chemicals used in color filters of LCD TVs and automotive finishes as well as additives for tire manufacturing.

With many years of experience under his belt, Philipp H. Junge is well versed in the broad chemical field. It was back in 2004 that the father of two originally decided to pursue a career in the chemical industry. After his tenure as a reserve officer in the Bundeswehr (German armed forces) and completing a university degree in economics, he worked as a consultant for Russian and international oil and chemical companies in the Moscow outpost of Roland Berger Strategy Consultants. Four years later he joined LANXESS. In 2008, at the enterprise’s former headquarters in Leverkusen, he strategically advised various corporate divisions as referee of corporate development. After two years, he took the reins of the global lubricant additives business in the Rhein Chemie business unit in Mannheim. From there, he assumed the lead of the rubber additives business, a role he continues to hold alongside his new position.
